Day 19 - Friday July 6, 2007

Greetings from Africa!!

Well our first full day at the Children’s Home was busy busy busy!!! While Sarah was learning to lay brick with Frank and other staff members, Kevin and Jackie taught their first class with the younger kids. Courtney and Jamie were with kindergardners and preschoolers while Linnet and Melissa helped out with paperwork and questions with the middleschool kids. Carol (our wonder chef) has been running the kitchen staff into producing tasty meals in huge quanitities. Even without one of her feet God has used her in amazing ways already. Brave Melissa taught some of the kids how to clip the goats hooves and burn their horns off (ouch!). After school and lunch the team played with the kids and planned our craft.  We’re absolutely certain that the main room has never been so glittery after a craft. Clean up and Carol teaching the cook to make blueberry muffins and beef stew led to pizza night for the staff compliment of the Mink’s son, Samuel.

God is working wonders already through our team! We’re certain all of our team members have selected the child we’ll be packing in our suitcases for the trip home! (families get ready for a lot of kids!) We love and miss you all!

Thanks for your prayers!
Linnet and Courtney

Hi, Gang…

Yes, we have returned! The trip home was a little more trying than we would have liked, but we all arrived safely. We had a 2-hour flight delay leaving Zambia, which was really pushing making our connection in Johannesburg. After grabbing our luggage and running through the airport, we found that the flight to Dulles was delayed 2 hours. Had time to catch our breath before the plane left at 8 p.m.(Africa time, Thurs./here it was 2pm).Arrived before 8 a.m.Fri. at Dulles. We were picked up, and headed home. Bill Lawton was driving Sarah’s Surburban and coming back on Rt. 15 the altinator died. Pulled off on Mt. Zion Rd. and the guys had to push it into a tractor place. Bill and Ed stayed with vehicle which the tractor guys fixed and Judy W. came and helped collect the rest of us (along with Lucinda who had also met us at airport). We finally got home about 11:15a.m., tired but glad to be safely home.

We each had a wonderful time and many memorable experiences. We hope to be able to share more with each of you. Thank you for all the prayers and support. Hope to see many of you "locals" at church tomorrow!

God Bless!

Jeff, Debra, & Michelle
