Good morning all!
It’s a bright and sunny winter Saturday morning here in Namibia. It’s 42 degrees outside, which is a little warmer than it’s been the last few mornings. Many of our team members are taking advantage of the weekend day and just resting and sleeping in a little later this morning.
Our last Friday (yesterday) was a pretty routine day ~ or at least I think we’re getting used to the normal routine of nothing being normal!! For instance, there were four very large men in camouflage outfits carrying AK47 rifles who walked around the perimeter of the village. They were quite friendly and greeted us with smiles and a wave, but seemed to be looking for something. Rebecca said they were looking for "illegals" ~ people who cross the river from Zambia without checking in with the officials. Alrighty, then!
School was busy as usual ~ I (Clydia) helped the "middle class" teacher to do the children’s grades. Each of about 25 children had 100 or more "grades" or points that had to be added and averaged . . . without a calculator!! I got through half of them before Mandie asked Gary Mink to borrow his. Oh well, it was good brain exercise. And the teacher said he always does it every quarter without a calculator. (Oy!)
And the building crew (Ed, Jeff and Dennis) stopped work early and joined us for craft time yesterday!! Well, sort of. Ed challenged the kids to several games of checkers. Jeff had a good game of chess going on. And Rev. Dennis was out on the trampoline! Okay, so he didn’t actually get on the trampoline (although I would have loved to see that!), but he supervised a big group of children who were very good at it.
Today is to be a fun day with the kids. I think we’re planning something to do with horses, and I think I heard "Capture the Flag" game from some of the others. So we’ll let you know what materializes today. Tonight we plan to get the Children of Zion Band to do a repeat performance. Rebecca, Debra, Becca & Beerina missed their debut performance last Saturday since they were on the road to Windhoek.
Our time here is growing shorter and we’re all starting to feel it. Everyone of us has totally fallen in love with this wonderful place on God’s earth. We’re just trying to soak in as much as we can and get as many hugs and smiles as possible from these beautiful children. God is truly at work in this place, and for whatever reason, it is so much clearer to see His handiwork here.
Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for the abundance of prayers, and keep them coming!
~ Clydia on behalf of Team One
