Day 8 & 9 - Mondat & Tuesday June 25 & 26, 2007

Hi!

Sorry about the late e-mail from yesterday! Not too much happened…Steven, Michelle, Mandie, Joe and Clydia drove into Mafuta where we spent the day. It was a late start because the teacher had to go into the village to get all of the children. We taught them duck duck goose and served mealy meal and a chili like soup for lunch. We also handed out the beanie babies which they loved…about 120 children there in the school. Then we came back where we just hung out with the children for most of the day. Deb was with Rebecca and Becca still. They got to the hospital with Bereena and found she hada torn ligament! Thank God it wasn’t a break or fracture. She is in a hard cast and will be for about 5-6 weeks and will then be completely healed. The men worked on the site laying bricks. At night, everyone took a night Safari but there was no luck seeing any wildlife :( but fun ride!!!

Today in the morning, Jeff, Michelle and Steven headed back to Mafuta where they bought hand crafted wood carvings from one of the volunteers, JJ. He has become quite a friend to us. The crafts were about 60-100 Namibian dollars which is equal to about 4-10 american dollars!! JJ said that about 500 Namiban dollars would be a great monthly salary (about $75 a month for us!!) Can you imagine? They also taught in the classroom today doing shapes, colors and animal noises translated. Then the remainder of us stayed at the home and did our normal routines…Mandie and Joe were in the classrooms, Clydia floated around  helping whoever needed it and the men worked on the site. The men welded the beams for the new bungalo today that Steven sanded and painted earlier. Michelle did more outrides with the children today and Steven joined. One of the horses, Snickers, got a cut on his eye which Rebecca and Michelle and some otherrs will stitch up later in the evening. At night, Jeff did an astronomy lesson with the older kids by showing them the moon, Venus and Jupiter through binoculars! They loved it!! Rebecca, Becca and Deb all made it home safe! Tommorow is Ed’s day off cooking since he has cooked every single night! Keep us all in your prayers, a few of us have come down with colds and stomach flus that we may have caught from the kids, thanks!

God Bless,
Steven, Mandie and Joe
